Collecting tips with the Shopify POS

Tips give your customers the opportunity to share their appreciation for your great service. Your customers can add a tip to any order processed in person on Shopify POS. Tips are currently available only for credit payments processed with asupported card reader.

Enable tips on Shopify POS

When you enable tips and select the credit payment method, a tip dialog is added to your Shopify POS checkout view when the credit payment method is selected. You can create up to three preset tip amounts and enable custom tips to allow your customers to enter their own tip amounts.

Steps:

1. From Shopify POS, tap≡>Settings.

2. UnderCheckout, tapTips.

4. Optional: If you don't want to allow custom tip amounts, disableCustom tips.

5. Optional: EnableMinimum tip amounts.

Minimum tip amounts

Enable minimum tip amounts to replace the preset tip percentages with set dollar values when a transaction falls below a specified amount. For example, if you set a minimum tip amount of 10, then you can replace your preset tip percentages of 15%, 18%, and 20% with set dollar amounts of 1, 2, and 3 for transactions under 10.

Steps:

1. From Shopify POS, tap≡>Settings.

2. UnderCheckout, tapTips.

3. CheckMinimum tip amounts.

4. Enter the minimum tip amount intoTransaction limit.

5. Enter a dollar value for each of the 3 preset tip amounts.

Collect a tip

If tips have been enabled, then the tip dialog appears during checkout when the credit payment method is selected. Customers can select one of several tip options:

• a preset tip percentage
• a custom tip amount (if custom tips are enabled)
• no tip

Steps:

1. From the Shopify POS cart view, tapCheckout.

2. On the select payment dialog, tapCredit.

3. Let the customer select their tip amount and make a payment.

Refund a tip

You can refund a tip without refunding the entire order.

Steps:

1. From Shopify POS, tapOrders.

2. Tap the order with the tip that you want to refund.

3. TapRefund.

4. On the refund view, tap+besideTipto increase the refund quantity to 1.

5. TapNext.

6. Confirm refund details are correct.

7. Optional: Add a reason for the refund.

8. TapRefund.

9. Optional: Email or text a receipt to the customer.

Tip reports

You can view the tips collected by each of your staff in yourTips report, and the total tips collected in yourFinancesreport.

Steps:

To view the total tips collected in yourFinancesreport:

1. From your Shopify admin, go toAnalytics>Reports.

2. From the category dropdown, selectFinances.

3. ClickTips.
