[MUSIC PLAYING] Google Analytics is the most common and free way to see if your organic search traffic is increasing overall. You don't need Google Analytics to do SEO, but using it will help you understand if your SEO efforts are working. Google Analytics is a free analytics tool created by Google that helps you analyze activity on your website.
-
When you have more data, you can make better marketing decisions. This is especially true when it comes to SEO. You want to know that your SEO efforts are working, and this is the easiest way. If you already have Analytics installed, skip ahead to the next lesson or stick around to ensure you've set it up properly. Now let's set this up together.
-
Like in the last lesson, you'll need to have your Shopify store open and a Google account set up. Once you're ready, go to google.com/analytics. Once you're here, click Start For Free, then click Sign Up. Since I'm already logged into my Google account, I'm able to just get started.
-
I'm going to name my account after my store. Just like in Search Console, I recommend copy and pasting your website directly from the browser to make sure it's correct. The only difference here is you can remove the HTTP section at the beginning.
-
And if you have HTTP set up for your website, you can switch to that option in the dropdown. If your store is using Shopify, then you already have HTTPS. You can select a category, and click Get Tracking ID. OK. If you're using Shopify, you only need to copy this code at the top and add it to your website.
-
If you're not using Shopify, you may need to add this entire script to your website. To add your Google Analytics code, go to Online Store and click Preferences. Towards the top, you'll see a Google Analytics section. Paste your code here, and then click Save.
-
That's it. Now you're set up with Google Analytics. The next optional step is to check out the glossary and the tools I'll recommend in this course. Then head to the next module to get started on keyword research. [MUSIC PLAYING]
