Accepting credit cards, warehouses, and shipping and fulfilling orders
Shopify just introduced inventory adjustment reasons and a new inventory state calledCommitted. What are inventory adjustment reasons, what is the ‘Committed’ inventory state and how can they benefit you?
Inventory adjustment reasons is a popover menu that allows you to choose areasonfor your inventory adjustment, primarily for tracking purposes.
Committed inventory describes items in an order that have not yet been fulfilled. Consequently, the inventory is‘committed’ to an existing order, making it clear in the Shopify admin that the inventory is unavailable but still on hand. This new committed state gives you a more accurate and complete representation of your physical inventory. Let’s take a look at an example below.
Example:You have five t-shirts on a shelf, but the Shopify admin says there are only three available. Without the committed state, you may not realize that two are already committed to an order. As a result, you may mistakenly adjust the quantity back to five, which might lead to overselling by two.
Let’s see how this looks in the Shopify admin:
Inventory list page:
The committed inventory state also appears in the inventory section of product/variant pages and inventory adjustment history pages.
The committed inventory state is now live and available for all stores, including Plus stores, without any API changes. It’s also available in all languages. If you have any other questions about the committed inventory state, please comment below or if you’d like to learn more, please see theTracking and adjusting inventory help doc here.

How can I take inventory out of "committed" and put it back into stock? There units that are committed, but there are no orders.
Hi@manuelilysm,
If there are units that are committed but there are no orders, then something is wrong. Can you reach out to an advisor on our support team bylogging in hereand let them know, please? Someone can look into this with you in real time to see what might be going on.

Hi
Did you ever get an answer to this as I have the same problem.
Hi Nick,
Thanks for explaining the new system. I still have a few questions about the Committed inventory State.
1- Will this new inventory state be added to the API soon?
We use an app to generate our restock reports for our brick and mortar location and it would be great to be able to take advantage of this information without having to double check the admin each time we have more of a product than expected.
2- Will this new inventory state be integrated into Draft Orders? (To replace the reserved inventory system that is currently being used.)
We definitely hope that it is because the 'reserved inventory' on draft orders doesn't work for us.
Best,
Noah
Hi everyone,
提交的不添加到库存状态PI currently. I'll make a feature request to our development team and make them aware of this feedback.
Committed inventory state won't be integrated into draft orders. A new inventory state for draft orders will be created for this down the line. Keep an eye out for it.
@KCopeland, those two shirts would be part of the 7 you have in your inventory, but are now 'committed'.

Hi Nick - when might inventory transfers be available via the API?
Hi Nick,
Sorry if I'm missing a more recent update, but is there a way to track committed inventory when working in draft orders (since the committed doesn't seem to be tied to draft orders yet)? I am a brand distributor, and we work months out on buys and pre-sales. I have our account orders in as drafts since the product isn't available yet, but it would be incredibly helpful to run a report in Shopify that will tell me what my balance is after the committed is removed from the total.
Thanks!
Dave
Is there an ETA on adding a the new inventory state to draft orders and enabling people to reserve inventory through the shopify API?

@Nick, can you tell me/us more about that feature and (of course) if there's an ETA for it?
Drafts are great but the reservation mechanism is lacking. In my opinion, it would be hugely helpful if changes to items within a draft order would adjust decrease/increase) the available inventory accordingly.
Thank you
As I am looking over this and our Shopify situation I just want to make sure that I understand the short version. "Committed" inventory is still part of the inventory on hand. So if I am doing a cycle count on my inventory and I have 5 shirts showing available and 2 shirts in committed should I technically have 7 shirts in my "physical" inventory or are those two shirts just still part of the 5 shirts?
I am also having issued with the committed inventory and I am finding that most of the issues causing those numbers to be off is that we have "unfulfilled" orders that were never closed out properly or cancelled. Could be the cause for others as well.
Hello - is it possible to add an additional 'reason' to the drop down menu explaining why an adjustment is being made - we sell offline to one particular buyer, and would like to make a note of the stock adjustment when these offline sales are processed. Thank you!
Hi@BethanERIC,
添加自定义的原因是不可能的。我将何wever make a feature request for you to make our development team aware!

Thank you for such a prompt response Nick! Cheers, Bethan
Having the option to add a custom "reason" would be very helpful!!
Hi Nick,
I am so glad that I can now make inventory adjustments and mark a reason. Is there a good report to run at the end of the month to see all of the inventory adjustments I made that month and why?
Hi@LOTV,
Really great question. That feature for Committed inventory isn't available but I can definitley see the value and how it might help your business gain insights. I'm going to add this as a feature request for our development team on your behalf!

Nick, has there been a way that I can run a Theft/Loss report on my inventory on items that I adjusted and used that drop down box.
hey LOTV,
was spending the morning to look for an existing report / API to export the reasons. Without any report the function seems to be useless. Would say that its really important to have an overview of the reasons...
1, What changed in the app the last few days that requires so many clicks to get into the inventory count on the mobile app. I use the mobile app around the shop as I update inventory. Now I have to click into the product into the variant and into the inventory details to get into adjusting the inventory count. When it should just be on the product landing page since 90% of the time I am on the mobile app is because I am adjusting inventory...
2. Why isn't the committed showing on the mobile app
Committed showed on Mobile for a few days and now it is gone again. Have you had any luck?
I was struggeling big time with this! Found a solution!! Ditch the app, use the webpage on your mobile browser! King
Finally someone with the same issues as us! We need the "committed" numbers to display on mobile. It's absolutely crucial to our workflow to keeping our inventory up to date. We can not bring a long a laptop each time we do picking or counting. Fix asap please!!
yesss agree this is such a mess
Is there a way to 'export' the committed inventory? I have made to order product so if I could print a committed spreadsheet. I could easily keep track of what products I need to prep to pack orders efficiently.
Was there ever an answer on this?

I have the same issue, I tried an export and the committed wasn't part of the export which wasn't helpful at all.
为什么承诺高于数量amount sold? We have a new product on our site, and the amount sold in the past 90 days is showing at 49, but the amount committed is showing as 52.
Thanks Nick!I am also having issues with the committed inventory as I am finding that most of the issues causing those numbers to be off is that we have "unfulfilled" orders that were never closed out properly or cancelled. What would you suggest here?
Does the committed show linked stores like on etsy when we have apps syncing inventory via sku or is this only for items on shopify with our inventory?
Hi@Nick
I was just wondering, is it possible to access the "committed data" through
API would be preferred, though.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Any update to this issue? Still cant find any reference to committed in the API preview.
Hi Nick,
Has theCommitted inventory state been added to API yet? We really need to get the committed quantity to know the exact on-hand quantity of each product.
Is there any way I can "clear" those committed numbers?
All my orders have been fulfilled (or cancelled) so there is no reason for any items to be "committed" and I would like to set this to 0 to reflect the current stock.
Is this possible?
