OTTAWA, ON – Feb. 5, 2015-Shopify, the commerce platform that allows anyone to easily sell online, at their retail location, and everywhere in between, today announced a major milestone: 150,000 businesses now use Shopify to power their stores.
“I’ve witnessed thousands of people accomplish life-long dreams of growing their own successful business, and nothing makes me happier,” said Tobias Lütke, Founder and CEO, Shopify. “This is the best thing about working at Shopify: seeing all of the incredible things our community does with our platform. ”
Shopify was built with the mission to make commerce better for everyone. The majority of merchants on the platform would self identify as small and medium sized businesses and are the makers, creators and curators of the world. These merchants have started and grown on Shopify, some now selling millions of dollars worth of products a year.
In 2014, the company launched Shopify Plus, to offer the reliability and scalability that larger corporations expect, while being designed for simplicity and ease-of-use and without the hefty price tag of traditional applications. It’s already trusted by merchants all over the world, including Google, LA Lakers, Wikipedia, Tesla Motors and many more.
Today, Shopify has over 600 employees across 4 offices located in Ottawa, Toronto, Montreal and Kitchener-Waterloo and the platform is home to businesses from over 150 countries around the world. To date, Shopify merchants have sold more than $7 billion dollars worth of products.
